Conference for the general public of the Grothendieck Institute in Paris
The conference “Visions in mathematics: from Grothendieck to the present day” will be held on Wednesday 14 June 2023 at the Amphithéâtre Hermite of the Institut Henri Poincaré, 11 Rue Pierre et Marie Curie, 75005 Paris, from 6 pm to 8 pm, with intervents by Olivia Caramello, Mateo Carmona, Alain Connes, Stéphane Dugowson, Johanna Grothendieck and Laurent Lafforgue.
A round table discussion will explore the themes raised by the person and visionary work of Alexander Grothendieck (1928-2014) in terms of philosophy, literature and politics, as well as mathematics: the future of topos theory in today’s mathematical landscape, relations with academic institutions in pure and applied mathematics, industrial research, teaching and the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
The speakers will then answer questions from the audience. The cocktail dinner, offered by the Institute, will be an opportunity for all participants to continue their discussions and initiate new exchanges. It will finish at 9 pm.
