Professor Olivia Caramello, Coordinator of the Centre for Topos Theory and its Applications (CTTA), gave a talk at MantovaScienza, the Science Festival of the city of Mantua, on 16 November 2025.
During the seminar, entitled “Topoi e ponti per la matematica e l’intelligenza artificiale: una metodologia per lo studio della complessità”, Caramello presented her theory of toposes as ‘bridges’, emphasizing its role as a unifying framework for establishing connections across diverse languages and scientific contexts, as well as for modelling complex phenomena.
She further outlined how this perspective – especially through recent advances involving relative toposes – opens promising avenues for applications to artificial intelligence. These ongoing developments are paving the way for the design of novel AI systems that, by emulating the distinctive features of human intelligence, enjoy greater robustness, security, and structural coherence.
